Parents have enough to worry about when raising their kids without having to worry about the games that their children are playing. While parents should at least know what type of games their children are playing, it has become more important for them to know where their playing them. Unlike the old-fashion board games where all the players sat around a table and everyone knew each other, many online games today allow kids to interact with any number of unknown people.

Just because there are potential threats on the internet does not mean that children should never touch it. Rather, parents should work with the child, help steer them towards safe choices, block them from offensive sites, and teach them a few simple rules to keep them safe while enjoy their games. In many cases, these rules can even apply to adults who enjoy utilizing social networking websites.

First, personal information should never be given out while online. Secondly, never use your real name or personal information in your screen names. Next, when using passwords, never give them out to anyone. Always read (not just skim) the rules and privacy statements of the companies with which you intend to interact. Do not post anything on the internet that you do not want others to see; once it has been posted, it will be there for good and anyone can potentially see it, even if you think it is private.

Additionally, it is important to avoid downloading any files from untrustworthy sources. If you build a friendship online, expect it to stay online, rather than attempting to meet the person. An important note for all child accounts is never post any pictures or schedules that will provide specific information of the child. The most important rule for any child to know: if something does seem right or they feel that they are in danger, immediately get a parent.

Finally, by directing the child to a kid friendly environment, they will be able to play the 3D games they love without worrying about everyone they meet. This does not mean that they are perfectly safe in these sites, rather that they are safer while also following the above rules.

All of these rules may seem a bit extreme for simple kids games, but it is important to remember that no matter where they are on the internet, there is always a chance for predators. However, a few simple rules, parent involvement, and child safe communities help to reduce the dangers and still allow the child an enjoyable hobby. After all, the best way to prepare children to fend for themselves is to give them the tools necessary and teach them how they are used.
